To me, in the world of entrepreneurship and careers, there are two primary reasons why problem-solving is an essential skill. Put simply: if you can solve people's problems, you can charge money for it. Secondly, scaling your trajectory inherently requires continuous problem-solving just to keep advancing.
Why Information Retrieval Is No Longer a Competitive Advantage
I used to consider myself a "Professional Google Searcher." I knew exactly where to dig to find solutions to complex problems - ranging from operational workflows and niche tools to obscure white-label software platforms I could leverage to upsell to clients.
However, simply knowing how to navigate search engines is rapidly becoming a skill of the past. As I write this, a new AI model is released or updated every other month, making access to raw information easier than at any point in human history. What used to require digging to the 45th page of Google and traversing obscure forums can now be answered by AI search agents in less than a minute.
Given this reality, finding solutions is no longer about information retrieval - it is about the thought process and mindset you bring to the table before you punch a prompt into an agent or embark on a digital deep dive.
What Is the Mindset of a True Solution Finder?
With modern AI tools, finding solutions is no longer a matter of following a rigid "type this, click that" formula. As with most topics on The Unconventional Trajectory, it comes down to identity: do you genuinely view yourself as a person who solves problems?
That statement sounds simple, and it is easy to assume that anyone can find a solution if they want to. But if that were true, most people would be operating at a much higher level. The reality is that the vast majority of people simply don't have the stomach to persist. Ten minutes of friction go by, they hit a dead end, and they give up. They were capable of searching for ten minutes, but they were not real solution finders.
A true solution mindset is rooted in dedication and persistence:
How deep are you willing to go into research to solve a problem for a client or your own business?
How many tools are you willing to test, workflows to build, or demo calls to sit through just to validate an answer?
When it comes to solving complex problems, you are either committed to finding the outcome or you aren't - there is no middle ground. The path requires an unwavering mindset: you simply do not stop until the problem is solved.
How Do You Approach a Problem to Find the Right Solution?
Assuming you have the dedication to see a problem through, how do you actually structure your approach? If you don't fully understand the problem at hand, you risk wasting time executing on the wrong solution.
1. Deconstruct the Problem
Unless you're dealing with a trivial issue, you must break the problem down into its individual components. What does the solution need to achieve? Who does it serve? What is the exact required output? Treat this like a comprehensive client project brief: you need clear specs before you build. To bring this into the AI era: the answer an agent gives you is only as good as the prompt you feed it. If your input is vague or incomplete, your output will be equally useless.
2. Connect Overlapping Knowledge

Is this problem similar to something you’ve encountered in another industry or project? Can an existing solution be adapted to serve this new purpose? There is no point in reinventing the wheel if an existing one fits the wagon.
However, the reverse is also true: do not force or hack an ill-fitting tool into a workflow just because it's the easy option. Doing so contradicts the entire ethos of a true solution provider.
3. Leverage Human Capital

Use every resource at your disposal to shortcut the learning curve. You don't need to build from scratch if you have the right domain experts to consult.
4. Maintain Critical Judgment with AI
While AI agents offer incredible speed for preliminary research, you must remain critical of their outputs. Models hallucinate and miss context. Ask for primary sources, inspect links, and verify documentation. Treat AI as a force multiplier for research velocity - never as an unquestioned substitute for your own critical thinking.
Moving from Research to Execution
Finding a theoretical solution is only half the battle; testing it and failing fast is what actually generates traction. If you are accumulating ideas without testing them in the real world, you are just spinning your wheels.

Leverage Modern Tools with Intent: Use AI agents as research force multipliers to accelerate retrieval, not as a crutch for critical analysis.
Run High-Velocity Micro-Tests: Rapidly deploy and test potential solutions in the real world rather than waiting for a perfect theoretical fit.
Maintain Unwavering Persistence: Refuse to pull back at the first sign of friction.
No matter how advanced software or information retrieval becomes, tools cannot replace determination. Cultivate the mindset first, use the best leverage available, and stay relentless in the hunt for solutions.
